IDDS 2007 Teams
IDDS is four weeks long. The first week is orientation, training, and project selection. Teams worked on their projects for the second and third weeks and presented their results in the fourth week. Read below for a glimpse of the 2007 teams and some of their work during this time.

Team Nsuo Pa

Members: John Quansah, Royce Chew, Sachi Findlater, Manpreet Singh
Nsuo Pa improved a low cost system for testing water contamination.
Team Safiri

Members: Ismat Lotia, Mohamed Mashaal, Clarel Jerome, Bernard Kiwia Team Safiri developed ‘Safiri-SODIS’ – ergonomic, transparent plastic bag systems for transporting river water back to villages. The bags can be laid down flat in the sun for Solar Disinfection (www.sodis.ch) of the contained water (Figure 1). They utilize a clever valve developed by Shawn Frayne of Haddock Invention, which reduces contamination while filling the bag and pouring out of it. The 3 prototype designs developed by the team are being trialled in Tanzania by Bernard Kiwia, a team member from Tanzania who works with a local NGO.
Team Sheba

Members: Arun Sharma, Renqingka, Ankit Sharma, Sumit Pahwa, Zubaida Bai
Sheba is a low-cost water filter which was conceived at IDDS to improve the lack of water availability in less-developed countries by improving household water quality. Simple materials such as paint buckets, plastic hoses, cloth bags were combined with filtration materials such as sand and gravel to build a filter which is inexpensive to purchase, simple to maintain and can be adapted to local water conditions. Testing at IDDS yielded results indicating need for further refinement, but demonstrated the viability of the concept.
Team Sheba wrote a paper about their IDDS project that was accepted at the 33rd WEDC, in Accra, Ghana during 2008.
Slurry Team

Members: Kendra Leith, Robert Bain, Tombo Banda, Miguel Santos, Christopher Toledo
The Slurry Team worked to develop a slurry separator for biogas digesters to reuse water to reduce the amount of water women have to carry to supply the digester.
Team Biolight

Members: Amit Gandhi, Jessica Vechakul, Sham Tembo
The Biolight team worked to develop microbial fuel cell technology to use the microbes found in dirt to create electricity for lighting.
